Remote Control Candle Set

I absolutely love candles (I featured a few of my favourites here) and the stronger they are the better. But I don’t just like candles for the scent, I love switching off the lights and relaxing with a nice glass of wine elderflower cordial.

However, I will admit that there has been a few one occasion when I have been too relaxed and fallen asleep with candles burning. Luckily nothing has happened apart from me waking up hours later in a slight state of panic!

I’ve been using this Paramount Zone Remote Control Candle Set* and they definitely alleviate the issue of falling asleep with a candle burning and provide a really nice ambient light.

They each take two AAA batteries and are controlled by a remote control. They can be set to light or candle – the latter making the fake flame flicker slightly, just as a candle flame would. Paramount Zone says it’s a perfect Christmas present for all the family, but personally I think they’re slightly gimmicky.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like them in addition to my candles, but I don’t see the point of them alone. I’d definitely use them on cosy nights in with the boy as I do like the soft light. But they’re not as bright as normal candles – so no scent and less light.

Bottom line: At just £11.99 they’re cheaper than a Yankee candle and admittedly they’re nice to have around alongside my old favourites.

The Remote Control Candle Set is available from the Paramount Zone website, priced at £11.99 for three. (no batteries included!)

Candles ..

I’ve always loved candles and room oils, mainly as my mum and her husband are very heavy smokers and I despise the smell. But not living at home means that candles aren’t a necessity anymore. Well until I won a giveaway a while back …

The lovely Lea from She Begins To See ran a Yankee Candle giveaway that I was lucky enough to win. I picked Cherry Blossom, which was absolutely gorgeous! [was – I’ve burned the whole thing now!]

Since then I’ve been obsessed and have amassed quite a collection of Yankee tarts and candles, and have gotten through two jars of Black Cherry and Fluffy Towels. I recently bought Country Lemonade (I love lemon), but I won’t use it for a while, as I’m going through candles way too quickly!

I was in my local Boots Clearance shop recently and came across this Cowshed Moody Cow Candle. The scent is quite strong, but I find it quite relaxing, so perfect for lighting when you’re having a bath or just relaxing on the couch in the evening.

You can buy these in normal Boots stores for £28, but I got mine for the bargain price of £8. As you can see the box is a bit scruffy, but the candle inside was perfect.

I went for an interview a couple of weeks ago and found myself roaming around Covent Garden and in front of a candle stand in the market. The stand was selling homemade ’Jam Candles’, which funnily enough are candles that look like jam.

I got cherry and lemon, which both look and smell like they’d be great on toast - and have a rather apt warning on the top, just in case someone thought they were edible! The candles are made of clear ‘jelly’ with pieces of fruit shaped wax inside. I’m yet to use them as I’m saving them (yes, I’m sad).

What are your favourite candles?

Beauty Box Swaps - Easter Bunny Swap Part II

A couple of days ago I blogged about an Easter Swap Event over at BBS on FB, and the box of goodies I got from Jade over at Jetley Mess – post here.

Well this morning I received my second box from Claire-Louise, and I love it!

My box included:

♥ An Easter card
♥ A cute cuddly toy
♥ Two Mini Easter Chicks
♥ Two Caramel Bunnies
♥ Thorntons Shoe Goddess Chocolate
♥ Aero Mint Lamb
♥ Malteaser Bunny (Which I’m eating right now!)
♥ Chocolate Face Mask
♥ Eylure Naturalites Double Lashes
♥ M&M’s Milk Chocolate Flavour Lip Smacker
♥ Body Shop Chocomania Lip Butter
♥ Body Shop Born Lippy in Strawberry
♥ NYX Nail Varnish in 24K Glitter
♥ Vanilla Satin Yankee Tart
♥ Charles Worthington Max Hold Hairspray
♥ MUA Eye Shadow in Pearl
♥ 17 Peep Show Mascara
♥ Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain & Balm in Passion

I know, it’s a huge, long list and I love everything. Before we arranged to swap we asked one another what products we both liked (she said she liked hand creams so I got her a selection of different ones) and I told her about my lip balm addiction – which she has well and truly fed!

I love the chocolate – goes without saying, and the chocolate themed products.

Love, love, love the Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain. I was actually looking at it when I bought my swaps for Jade and Claire but decided to save my pennies for the swap.

The NYX nail varnish is lovely and looks great over my shellac :)

Massive thanks to Claire-Louise for this amazing box!
