The Makeup Show Live Event at The Cumberland, Marble Arch

A little while ago I attended the Makeup Show Live with the lovely Grace from All That Slap. She’d been given two press passes to attend the event, so I tagged along as her date.

The event was held in the The Cumberland Hotel, just around the corner from Marble Arch Station.

When we got there Grace had printed out the email that said we should report to the ‘press area’ at 10am to get our press passes to enter the event. We were pretty much ignored for about 10 minutes, with no one knowing where we should be heading or really bothering to find out. After we’d been standing around for a while exchanging very unimpressed glances, the organiser arrived at the desk. She was told that we were looking for the press desk, and without evening acknowledging us she said, ‘Why are they even here yet? They were told to arrive at 11.’

I was unimpressed before, but now my level of unimpressedness was off the radar. Why not address us and tell us that we’re early – even though the email said to arrive between 10:00 and 10:30. We were told to take a seat and that we’d be called ‘when the event was ready’.

Luckily, since Grace is so lovely we sat and had a good old natter about blogging and whatnot, but if I’d been alone or with someone equally as hotheaded as me, I’d have probably left.

Anyway, once we were finally ‘allowed in’ we wandered through the different stalls selling makeup and beauty products.

Honey for Beauty.
Look out for some reviews on this brand coming up soon.

I’d just like to add that the lady who runs Honey for Beauty is probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met!

Mink London brushes.
I don’t want to sound like a cow but they brought these brushes by the bucket load and were selling the set for £20. They felt horrible and were shredding at the lightest touch. I could probably buy the same set from China on eBay for a fraction of the price …

I personally wouldn’t wear these but I think it’s amazing that each bead was made out of long strips of paper!

Boni Caro: Love in a Box jewellery.

Diamond Blend. Beauty products that contain diamonds? Yes please.

The organisers provided us with drinks and cupcakes, which was a nice touch as after we’d perused the 15 or so stalls there wasn’t much else to do!

After a while we were all taken into the main room with a catwalk.

We were introduced to our MC, and shown a 10minute show reel (honestly, it was so long) of acting that he’d done – none of which related to makeup or beauty. He spoke for a while, but you could tell that he had no interest in beauty.

He introduced Natasha Nair, who has worked as an MUA for The X-Factor and This Morning. She gave us an awfully long introduction about herself and then proceeded to show us every shot she’d done the makeup for and explained what she’d done. Grace and I just looked at one another and agreed that we’d given it enough of a go and decided to leave.

After a sneaky purchase from Honey for Beauty we left.

Honestly speaking the event was really, really, really, really bad. I enjoyed myself, but only because of the banter with Grace. Badly organised, boring, and pretty much pointless.

Tickets for the show were £25 and £45 for general and VIP tickets respectively. But I would have been absolutely livid if I’d paid for a ticket.

that's a shame about the bad experience you had! :(
I'd love to attend one of these events but there aren't many up north in scotland, unfortunately... xx

Thanks for the review. One to avoid, talk about bad customer service from the PR. Some people really need to google that word before they enter the profession.
